It frustrated fans and there were talks of the title being retired altogether when he was being touted as an opponent for Arman Tsarukyan.

The original intention of the BMF title was to award fighters who are maybe not ever going to be in world title contention, but who never say no to a challenging or exciting fight. And many felt Oliveira didn’t fit the mold to follow in the footsteps of Jorge Masvidal, Justin Gaethje and Max Holloway.

**READ MORE: **30-fight UFC veteran added to Charles Oliveira and Alex Pereira’s UFC 335 undercard

## Charles Oliveira’s BMF title reign rubbished by Dan Hooker

Someone like Dan Hooker is perhaps more the type of fighter who would compete for the BMF belt, given that he is known for violence and exciting fights, even if he happens to be on a three-fight losing streak.

Oliveira is a different case, and his performance against Holloway in March seemingly put an end to the concept once and for all. However, he is now defending the title at UFC 335 against another fighter who barely qualifies in Diego Lopes.

Speaking with Submission Radio, Hooker replied to the claim that the belt is now ‘stupid’ by saying: “Well, it was cool for a bit and then [Oliveira] kind of made it not cool… I think he killed it.” Asked if he felt the belt could be revived, Hooker simply said “No.”

![image](/media/objects/25/252de2be65191fd33d90abcd0b9ec66b7a54123db6412a989c1b6279a43884cd_thumb.jpg)","Donagh Corby",[40,25],"rss"]
